Notes & Pairings
The late harvest category is a tricky one in Tokaj. The lackluster regulations open the door to some less than noteworthy wines, but then there are those who go above and beyond the minimum. Case in point is this 2021 Katinka made from a blend of Furmint, Sárgamuskotály, Zéta, and Kövérszőlő. There’s no requirement to have botrytized berries, we have some here. There’s no aging requirement and most just do a couple of months in stainless steel, this does 6 months in oak barrels. There’s no residual requirement, but the vast majority come in between 60-80 g/l., this one has nearly 140 g/l which puts it above the minimum for a 5 Puttonyos. Aromatic, healthy acidity, and still 12.5%, this among the best ways to start a meal and make it a crazy price to quality ratio as well.
